Any suggestions?

Note: Even if you aren't in the Interactive/BTM group it would be great to at least get some feedback on the concept. Cheers.

Hi again everyone. This week I intend to work through a couple of my proposed ideas before going with the one I feel has the most potential/seems to function the best.

Here I have been developing an idea centring around a bus stop.
Here I have contemplated implementation of other sensors in the bus stop idea.

Here I have been considering various issues with the lift idea.

Any suggestions for reference points, ideas, comments etc. would be much appreciated and I will be happy to post feedback on your ideas as well.

Cheers.

will it be the shadows of the people visiting the installation projected on the screen and in turn triggering when the bus comes and goes? Looking good so far dan, let me know how you get on with the muio box. Think I might try and lend one myself this week.

The shadows thing sounds like a good idea, actually. Then I could make it like the Gupta exhibit at FACT and use light sensors to trigger the actions. Might be more interesting than a simple motion sensor.

I'm actually in Uni now but there's no sign of Chris. I've managed to get in his office but I can't find the Muio boxes and sensors. Any ideas where it is, or if Chris will be around later?

dont know Dan. think they are deffo in his office cause that's where we took them last so just keep rooting!

I had another look in the office and couldn't find anything. Unless he's hidden them somewhere they aren't there.

There was a note left on his desk mentioning some first year Muio students so I'm thinking perhaps they have all been lent out.

just had another look at the bus stop idea, this might sound stupid but what does it do? could you explain it as a sequence of events. i understand its activated by people getting close to it which then plays a film but whats next? what are the participents supposed to do next if anything? i'm not having a go at your work, i just don't feel i can comment on it properly

That's OK Frank. Maybe I didn't explain it well enough because I've been working on it so long I presume other people automatically know what I'm on about as well :)
Anyway, this is it in a nutshell:

Starts off with a loop of a bus pulled up to the stop. When someone walks into the room, activating a sensor, the scene changes to show the bus driving off.

If the user stays where they are (keeping the beam broken) the video continues to show people walking to the bus stop and just a load of traffic going past.

If the user moves away another bus pulls up to the bus stop. Any attempts to try and 'catch' the bus again will prove fruitless as the bus always moves away when you walk closer and break the beam.

It's supposed to be (kind of) making a statement about the uselessness of public transport but is primarily meant to a bit of fun.

ta for that, i think it sounds good but it might become a bit repetitive. u might want to think about other veriations of it (doors closing, stuff like that). i think it will work though

it would also be nice if there was a way of actually catching the bus and catching the game out, but that doesn't sound like the point your trying to make.

There's an excerpt from my filming so far here. I also might use some of this footage for the moving traffic part of the piece.

Yeah I also plan to work in some variation, different buses, police cars driving past etc. Cheers for the comments, Frank!

I really like the lift idea and I don't think it would offend disabled people, I'm not really sure what I'd think if I saw an image of a disabled person on a lift either! It probably would make me take the stairs just because I didn't know what was going on!
I also like the bus stop idea but I think it's limited with what you can do with it, whereas you can do loads with the lifts.
